Little Sophie, she shines like the sun
ties a bouquet of meadow flowers and violets
The sky shines glorious blue, as she slowly walks home
She sits alongside her gate
holding her bouquet aganst her cheek
Hears then a song, then a (dust) cloud appears
A little soldier marches up towards her
He has striped pants* and he has a big gun
He marches so proper
A little,(but a) big soldier
Little Sophie, she shouts 'Hello' to you
My name is Sophie, come here and play with me
but the soldier then replies
No, I must hurry on
I shall go to a distant land
The whole world is on fire
(and she said) Can I go with you, I promise to be good
We will be back before nightfall
But then he replies
stay here little friend
for I will come back soon again
and little Sophie, she waited every spring
With the wind pulling towards the north
knows the answers but cannot speak
He will never come back
but still she waits...
*can be ripped or torn pants also
